In the winter of 2018, it wasn’t only the snow giving Robert Yeadon trouble. He began to notice an increase in pain in the right side of his hip. After previously being made aware that he has arthritis in that side of his hip, the pain became unbearable and normal movement became a struggle. He needed medical help and went to hip surgeon Mr Simon Jones at Spire Dewsbury Clinic.
"In 2017 I had a left hip replacement. When I went in for that I was made aware of signs of Arthritis in my right hip. During the winter of 2018, the pain in my hips significantly increased. I started noticing it when I was bending, moving and especially walking."
"At my initial consultation, Mr Simon Jones agreed to perform surgery on my right hip. He had previously done my left hip so there was no doubt in my mind that he was the man to do my other side. I was overjoyed as I knew that surgery would correct my condition and it would ease the pain and discomfort I was in. Ultimately I didn’t have any other options. I either had do nothing and manage the pain, taking medication or have the surgery as soon as possible. I had to have an X-ray and underwent a pre-assessment prior to admission."
"The operation went great, everything was excellent! The anaesthetist was great in managing my epidural, the theatre staff were a great team and the room where I stayed was five star! I received guidance on what to do from day one. The physios and nurses work around the clock monitoring you and even had me using walking sticks the next day."
"Now I’m very happy and relaxed. I’m in no pain what so ever. As expected after surgery there was a little bit of discomfort but that’s disappeared now. When I got home, I felt like every day I was making great progress in my recovery. My wound has now healed and Mr Jones is pleased with my progress and improvement walking."
Mr Yeadon has some advice for people wondering whether to get the surgery or not: "Go for it, it’s life-changing and is low risk. Live life pain free and ask for Mr Simon Jones if possible."
Meet the consultant
Mr Simon Jones is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Hip and Knee Surgeon. He studied medicine at Leeds University Medical School and went on to complete both basic and higher surgical training in the Yorkshire region. He completed his specialist training with a year-long fellowship at the world-renowned Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre in Oxford where he gained experience in all aspects of hip and knee surgery.
