Ms Jasmine Challis
Registered Dietitian and Nutritionist (SENr)
BSc RD
"Spire Dunedin Hospital supports all my clinical needs allowing me to provide the best service I can to my patients."
Specialises in
I have been a Registered Dietitian for over 30 years and have extensive experience in a number of fields. I run weekly clinics at Spire Dunedin Reading Hospital, accepting referrals from GP’s and Consultants, and in some circumstances self-referrals. I advise those with conditions including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and other eating disorders/disordered eating, IBS, coeliac disease, other GI problems, oncology patients, endocrine patients including those with diabetes and PCOS , cardiac patients and those where nutrition is an issue after surgery.
I also work with patients in a secure hospital where the issues associated with overweight and obesity are the main focus of the caseload.
In the last 10 years I have worked extensively with sufferers of eating disorders, and separately sport/dance nutrition: with dancers and students from varied dance genres, as well as circus performers.
I am on the Sport and Exercise Nutrition register (SENr) and I am a visiting lecturer at Reading University, Trinity Laban Conservatoire and Roehampton University. I attend relevant study days and conferences to main up to date knowledge, and this includes specialist training on the use of low FODMAP diet, which has shown significant improvements in IBS type symptoms.
I am on the medical advisory panel of IADMS (the International Association of Dance Medicine and Science) and have written information sheets on Nutrition/Hydration for Dancers for both One Dance UK and IADMS. I am co-author of the Nutrition chapter in the IADMS Dancer Wellness book published 2017. I regularly present at the IADMS annual international conference. I am currently undertaking a Masters in Research in Sport and Exercise Science.
I would very much like to help your patients whether covered by insurance or self-pay to meet their nutritional goals in the way that is most compatible with their lifestyle. I see the work as a collaboration, as they have the expertise in their lifestyle, and my role is to translate the nutritional modifications that will be of benefit to them, into a workable practical solution.
