"Clinical data has shown that the UroLift® System is safe and effective in relieving lower urinary tract symptoms due to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). BPH is a non-cancerous growth of the prostate, which causes it to enlarge and press on the urethra.

"I was national lead for a European multi-centre study evaluating this exciting new treatment, making me a UK authority on the prostatic urethral lift (PUL) procedure.

"I'm registered as a proctor and teach other surgeons how to perform the procedure - both in the UK and Europe. The procedure helps open up the blocked urethra using inserted implants to lift or hold up the prostate tissue. It does not involve cutting, heating or removing any of the tissue, which can have long term side effects on erectile function and urinary incontinence.

"The treatment is completed in less than 30 minutes and can prevent lengthy unnecessary stays in hospital. It targets the problem area for patients with increased accuracy for better outcomes and healing. UroLift® doesn’t require an overnight stay and the patient can typically return to normal daily activities soon after treatment. It’s the only procedure for BPH that preserves sexual functions.
