I studied medicine at Guy's Hospital in London, and gained an additional degree (BSc) in the history of medicine and ancient history. I also trained in France learning advanced techniques in arthroscopy and joint replacement of the shoulder and elbow. After qualifying I performed my initial medical posts in Portsmouth and at the Cambridge Military Hospital before embarking on my formal military service with the Parachute Regiment in Aldershot and Northern Ireland. I then carried out surgical training in Wessex, with some time spent on plastic surgery, followed by a specialist fellowship in Grenoble and Oxford where I was trained under Professor Carr in the shoulder and elbow unit.

I have been working at Frimley Park Hospital since 2005. After 25 years of military service and four operational tours of Iraq and Afghanistan, where on my most recent tour I was able to act as a mentor and pass on some of the military trauma experience to more junior military surgeons, I have become a full-time NHS surgeon and also practising privately at Spire Clare Park Hospital.

Outside of work I have interest in sailing and often race at Cowes. I supports the military sailing charity Toe in the Water which helps to rehabilitate wounded or injured service personnel through competitive sailing. I have two teenage daughters who compete in equestrian events, often resulting in long journeys at weekends in a horsebox. As a family we have four horses, a Labrador, chickens and a pair of black shouldered peacocks.
