Specialises in
Virtual consultations:
I qualified from the University of Bristol in 2004. My early training included time spent working in Australia and I then completed my rheumatology training within the South West region. I specialise in osteoporosis, inflammatory joint pain, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, axial spondyloarthritis, inflammatory back pain, autoimmune connective tissue diseases, polymyalgia rheumatica, gout, medical management of osteoarthritis.
I currently work as an NHS consultant for University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Foundation Trust (Bristol Royal Infirmary and South Bristol Community Hospital) where I look after patients with all forms of rheumatic diseases. My specialist area of interest is osteoporosis and bone health. I lead the osteoporosis and rare bone service at University Hospitals Bristol and deliver a regular osteoporosis and rare bone clinic. I am highly experienced in the interpretation and reporting of DXA scans and vet all the reports in the Trust.
In addition to my clinical practice, I have had undergraduate education roles in the University of Bristol Medical School.
I really care about looking after individuals with long-term conditions and supporting them through their patient journey. I am responsive to patient enquiries and am happy to provide further email support following the initial consultation, with an understanding that no two patient's journeys are the same and each individual patient has different requirements for their health and treatment.
In addition to my clinical work, I am an honorary senior clinical lecturer at the University of Bristol and specialty tutor for Bristol Medical School undergraduates.
Some of the principal treatments carried out by Dr Matthew (Thekkekkara) Roy at Spire include:

Other treatments
