Consultant in Clinical Oncology
MBBCh (Honours), M.MedSci, MD, FFRRCSI, FRCR
Some of the principal treatments carried out by Dr Hoda Al Booz at Spire include:
As a Consultant Clinical Oncologist I specialise in chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatment for gynaecological cancers and for cancers of the head and neck. I have expertise and a special interest in using specialised radiotherapy techniques such as Brachytherapy and IMRT.
My experience has been built over years of specialist training in Leeds and Bristol. In Leeds I completed a Masters degree in Medical Science of Oncology and an MD research on Prostate Brachytherapy. In Bristol I lead research about normal organs that are at risk of being damaged by internal radiotherapy (Brachytherapy), as part of my interest in the radiobiology of high dose radiation used in Brachytherapy.
I regularly attend the National and International medical and radiation oncology scientific meetings and conferences. I work closely with the Wales and South West Head and Neck oncologists and the South West Gynaecology oncologists. Both groups meet bi-annually to share and discuss clinical protocols, trials and I peer review their practices.
I am a core member of both multidisciplinary Head and Neck and Gynae-oncology teams in Bristol. Both my private and NHS patients benefit from speedy referral to surgeons when needed.
I teach as a Clinical Teacher in the School of Clinical Sciences in the University of Bristol, and lecture at the University of the West of England to both under and post graduate students.
I've obtained the Radiation Oncology Fellowship of both the Royal College of Radiologist in London and the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. I then set up the Bristol Gynae-oncology course, which is the first in the UK to handle Gynae-oncology from diagnosis to all modalities of treatment.
The course is being accredited by the Royal College of General Practitioners, and aims to speed the early diagnosis and management of Gynaecological cancers. The course has been a success for the third year and excellent feedback from candidates is constantly received.
