Virtual consultations:
I am a Consultant Urologist at Spire Yale Hospital and Spire Abergele Clinic. I see a wide range of general urology cases, including urgent referrals such as haematuria, raised PSA, prostate symptoms and kidney stones, as well as routine diagnostic presentations. I have a particular interest in stone surgery, laser prostatectomy, upper urinary tract laparoscopy and men’s health.
I qualified from Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School in 1997 and completed my basic surgical training on the Oxford rotation. I then undertook laboratory‑based clinical research in prostate cancer at University College London, before completing higher surgical training in urology in London.
Alongside my clinical practice, I have a strong academic interest. I have edited five teaching textbooks, published over 70 peer‑reviewed papers indexed on Medline, and presented at numerous national and international meetings. I have also organised practical skills courses for surgical trainees and career development courses for medical students and junior doctors at the Royal Society of Medicine in London.
My clinical work includes the management of benign prostate disease, bladder and kidney stone disease, urinary tract infections and incontinence, as well as urological cancers including prostate, bladder and kidney cancer. I also provide treatments such as SpaceOAR® hydrogel where appropriate, and manage male infertility and general urological pathology.
Some of the principal treatments carried out by Professor Iqbal Shergill at Spire include:
