"The outpatient team are caring and considerate. They make it a joy to work here."
I have worked within the NHS for almost 30 years and have contributed to a number of research projects aimed at advancing the understanding, development and management of diabetic foot complications.
I was instrumental in introducing diabetic foot screening into NHS podiatry services in the 1990s and more recently in establishing the multidisciplinary foot clinic at the North Wales Glan Clwyd Hospital Diabetes Centre. I have also provided lecturing services at Bangor University and Glyndŵr University, and have contributed significantly to the development of NHS foot care services, particularly within my specialist field of diabetes.
I have a broad and diverse range of skills in caring for patients with mobility issues, foot problems and footwear concerns. With experience in gait analysis and the management of pain and dysfunction in the foot and lower limb, I bring a wealth of clinical experience to my patients. I have performed over 1,000 nail surgery procedures.
Alongside my clinical work, I am actively involved in volunteering and advocacy. I provide support for Diabetes UK through the Children in School Helpline, which offers guidance and reassurance to parents of children with type 1 diabetes, helping them to manage their condition safely and confidently within the school environment.
My areas of expertise include – foot complications in diabetes, including management and prevention, diabetic foot screening and care, and a wide range of foot pathologies such as metatarsalgia and plantar fasciitis. I also provide advice on footwear, insoles and orthoses, and have specialist knowledge in functional anatomy, musculoskeletal conditions of the lower limb, as well as nail and skin conditions affecting the feet.
