  • Sports injuries related to foot and ankle

I am a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon providing a comprehensive foot and ankle service, with particular expertise in the management of both routine and complex conditions. My clinical work includes the treatment of sports‑related injuries involving ligament and tendon reconstruction, as well as a strong focus on bunion correction and deformity surgery.

A significant proportion of my practice is dedicated to bunion and toe corrective procedures, which can affect patients’ mobility, work and footwear choices. Surgical techniques in foot and ankle surgery have advanced considerably, with modern approaches offering more predictable outcomes, improved recovery and reduced discomfort. Many procedures, including bunion correction, can now be performed safely and effectively using contemporary methods, sometimes under local anaesthetic, and may involve keyhole (arthroscopic) techniques where appropriate.

I qualified in 1987 and currently provide a specialist foot and ankle service for the NHS at Wrexham Maelor Hospital, a tertiary referral centre for North Wales, managing complex cases from across the region. I completed my orthopaedic training in Yorkshire, including at Leeds Teaching Hospitals, and developed an early interest in foot and ankle surgery. I undertook a dedicated fellowship at Arrowe Park Hospital on the Wirral and gained further experience working in specialist units across the UK and in leading institutions in Dublin.

My clinical practice includes ankle and foot surgery, arthroscopy, the management of osteoarthritis, soft tissue injuries and sports‑related conditions. In addition, I am involved in medico‑legal work.

Outside my routine clinical practice, I have been involved in international humanitarian work, providing orthopaedic care in disaster zones. I have undertaken surgical work following major earthquakes in Kashmir (2005), China (2007), Indonesia (2009) and Haiti, working with international teams to treat injured patients. I have also contributed to charitable initiatives providing prosthetic limbs in developing countries.
