Dr Stephen Stanaway

Consultant Diabetologist and Endocrinologist

BSc (Hons) MSc (Diab/Endo) FRCP

I am a Consultant Physician, Diabetologist and Endocrinologist and have been working at consultant level since 2003. I specialise in the diagnosis and management of a wide range of endocrine and metabolic conditions, including type 1 and type 2 diabetes, thyroid disorders, parathyroid disease, adrenal disorders, pituitary conditions and hormone-related conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and male hypogonadism.

Since 2003, I have worked as a Consultant Endocrinologist and Diabetologist in Wrexham, caring for thousands of patients with a broad range of endocrine conditions. Within my diabetes practice, I have a particular interest in diabetes in young adults and lead a multi-award-winning service that has been recognised as a gold-standard model for Wales. I also provide specialist assessment and diagnostic services for patients with suspected endocrine disorders, helping to identify the cause of symptoms and guide appropriate treatment where required.

I believe in taking a holistic approach to patient care, treating every patient with dignity, respect and understanding. I provide consultations that allow sufficient time to discuss symptoms, concerns and treatment options in detail, ensuring patients feel informed and supported throughout their care.

Alongside my clinical practice, I hold a senior medical management role within the NHS, contributing to the development and delivery of healthcare services.

Outside of work, I enjoy fell walking, running, keeping fit and music. I play guitar in a local cover band and am also a keen gardener.
