Doctor Grace Gilbert-Kawai

General Practitioner

MBChB, BSc (Hons), Dip GUM, MRCOG, MRCPath

I have been a doctor since 2005 and a GP since 2012, with over 20 years of clinical experience, including 13 years working in London. During this time, I worked as a GP Partner in a busy North London practice and in specialist sexual health services, including in Soho. I was also a member of the North London COVID-19 response team, gaining valuable experience in managing patients and healthcare challenges during the pandemic.

I have a broad range of expertise in general practice, with particular interests in women’s health, sexual and reproductive healthcare, and the assessment and management of complex patients. I am experienced in caring for patients from diverse backgrounds and supporting those whose needs may be complex or who require advocacy and coordination between different services.

My wider experience includes working as an Honorary Clinical Research Fellow at University College London and, in 2012, as Chief Medical Officer for the Xtreme Everest 2 research expedition, an international project investigating human adaptation to extreme altitude. These experiences have strengthened my interest in evidence-based medicine, clinical research and managing complex clinical situations.

Alongside my clinical practice, I am an examiner for the Royal College of General Practitioners, a GP appraiser for the North West and a Medical Examiner at the Royal Liverpool Hospital. I bring a thorough, evidence-based and personalised approach to consultations, with a strong emphasis on listening to patients, understanding the wider context of their symptoms, and ensuring appropriate investigation, treatment and follow-up.

A particular strength of my practice is continuity of care. I aim to provide calm, approachable and comprehensive consultations in which patients feel listened to, understand their options and have a clear plan for their ongoing care.

I specialise in comprehensive general practice and am particularly experienced in providing holistic, patient-centred care and coordinating investigations and specialist care where appropriate.

My areas of interest include women’s health, contraceptive counselling and provision, including the fitting and removal of intrauterine contraception (coils) and contraceptive implants, general medical assessment and management of acute and chronic conditions, preventive healthcare and health screening, and the assessment of complex and undifferentiated symptoms, with appropriate investigation and referral where required.

Alongside my clinical practice, I hold a number of professional roles that contribute to my clinical experience and commitment to high standards of care. I am an examiner for the Royal College of General Practitioners, a GP appraiser for the North West, a GP trainer and a Medical Examiner at the Royal Liverpool Hospital.

I have worked with vulnerable and complex patient groups, including people experiencing homelessness, which has strengthened my skills in advocacy, holistic assessment and coordinating care across different services.

These roles complement my clinical practice and reflect my commitment to maintaining high professional standards, supporting colleagues and providing thoughtful, patient-centred care.
