Spire South Bank Hospital achieves gold standard recognition from the National Joint Registry
24 November 2025
Colleagues at Spire South Bank Hospital have been recognised by the National Joint Registry for meeting all mandatory audit requirements and demonstrating exceptional compliance with the NJR’s national data quality standards. This gold award reflects the hospital’s dedication to continuous improvement and delivering the highest standards of patient care.
The NJR collects and monitors high-quality orthopaedic data on the performance of hip, knee, ankle, elbow and shoulder joint replacement in order to support patient safety, standards in quality of care, and overall value in joint replacement surgery, as well as to provide feedback on surgical performance to orthopaedic clinicians and joint replacement implant manufacturers.
The ‘NJR Quality Data Provider’ certificate scheme was introduced to offer hospitals a blueprint for reaching high-quality standards relating to patient safety and to reward those who have met the registry’s high targets in the achievement of the quality of the data collected.

The annual NJR Data Quality Audit compares the number of joint replacement procedures submitted to the registry to the number of procedures that have been carried out and recorded in the local hospital Patient Administration System. The audit ensures that the NJR is collecting and reporting the most complete, accurate data possible in all hospitals performing joint replacement operations, including Spire South Bank Hospital.
Dawn Pickrell, Hospital Director at Spire South Bank Hospital, said: “We are incredibly proud to receive this gold award from the National Joint Registry again. It reflects the dedication of our teams, who work tirelessly to ensure that the care and safety of every patient remains our highest priority. Accurate data isn’t just an administrative task -it directly supports better outcomes for patients undergoing joint replacement surgery.”
Medical Director of the National Joint Registry, Mr Tim Wilton, said: “Congratulations to colleagues at Spire South Bank Hospital. The Quality Data Provider Award received by the team at this hospital demonstrates the high standards that are being met in ensuring compliance with the registry and is a reflection of the strong departmental efforts to achieve such status.”
