Mr Raj Kugan

I routinely perform surgery for bunion correction, flat foot correction, ankle replacement or ankle fusion for osteoarthritis, ankle ligament repair, ankle scope and cartilage reconstruction surgery, midfoot and hindfoot fusion surgery for arthritis and surgery for rheumatoid arthritis in my NHS and private practice. I have a special interest in multilevel complex foot and ankle surgery and complex foot and ankle fracture fixation.

My principle interest is foot and ankle surgery with a special interest in ankle replacement and complex foot reconstructive surgery. My other main interest is trauma surgery with focus on complex foot and ankle fractures. These include fractures of calcaneum, talus, Lisfranc, complex ankle fractures and pilon fractures.

I have been a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon for over 10 years. I was based at Cheltenham and Gloucester NHS Trust for the last nine years and moved to Worcester in 2021. I completed my specialist orthopaedic training at Oxford Deanery in 2012 followed by BOFAS recognised Foot and Ankle Fellowship and an International Foot and Ankle Fellowship under Professor Hintermann in Switzerland. I have also completed Frame Fellowship at Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre, Oxford under Professor M McNally.

My past experience includes reconstructive surgery involving deformity correction, non-union surgery and complex knee/ankle osteotomy. Plating, Ilizarov/Taylor Spatial frame and nailing are some of the fixation methods I have used.

I have introduced new techniques in the past to foot and ankle service including Bridge Plating Technique for Lisfranc injury, Talus Hemicap, Matrix Implantation for cartilage defect and Hamstring Reconstruction of Deltoid Ligament.
