Spire Murrayfield Healthcare Colleague Scales Himalayan Peaks to Support Wildlife Conservation

09 January 2026

  • Robotic Team Leader Zuzana Soltesova completed a high-altitude Himalayan trek and summit to raise over £10,000 for wildlife conservation charity Saving The Survivors

A Spire Healthcare colleague has helped achieve an extraordinary mountaineering and fundraising feat, successfully trekking to Everest Base Camp and summiting Island Peak (Imja Tse) in Nepal – all in support of the wildlife conservation charity Saving The Survivors

Zuzana Soltesova, Robotic Team Leader at Spire Murrayfield Hospital on the Wirral, was part of a team of eight supporters who reached the 6,189 metre summit of Island Peak. Remarkably, 100% of the team reached the summit, an outcome recognised as one of the rarest achievements on the mountain.

Reaching this altitude places the team among the top 5–10% of all trekking and mountaineering visitors to Nepal, with individual summit success rates typically between 60–80%.

The challenge pushed the team through extreme altitude, ice, exhaustion, and technical climbing conditions, but their determination paid off. Together, they have raised over £10,000 to support Saving The Survivors, a charity dedicated to protecting and rehabilitating injured wildlife across Africa.

Zuzana said: “This was without doubt the most challenging yet rewarding experience of my life. It tested me physically and mentally in every possible way, but knowing we were doing this for such an important cause made every step worthwhile. I am incredibly grateful for the generosity and encouragement I received from colleagues and supporters.”

The expedition was led by Saving the Survivors Director Tristan Wood, alongside a group of committed friends and supporters, all united by a shared passion for adventure and conservation. Funds raised will directly support the charity’s vital work treating injured animals and safeguarding endangered species.

A spokesperson for Saving The Survivors said: “We could not be prouder of this incredible team. Their resilience and teamwork carried them to the summit, and their efforts will directly help us save more animals in need. They didn’t just summit a mountain – they lifted our mission even higher.”

Zuzana has extended her heartfelt thanks to everyone at Spire and beyond who donated, shared encouragement, or followed the journey. Anyone wishing to continue supporting the cause can donate via her JustGiving page:
