I am a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Liverpool University Foundation Trust. I was appointed as an Upper Limb Consultant in 2015, practising in all aspects of shoulder and elbow and hand and wrist surgery. Since 2019 I have subsequently subspecialised into hand and wrist surgery alone.
I specialise in general hand and wrist surgery, treating significant numbers of patients with common conditions such as carpal and cubital tunnel syndrome, tendonopathies, Dupuytrens disease, trigger digits, and ganglion cysts.
I trained as an Orthopaedic surgeon in the South West in and around Bristol and Bath, before undertaking three prestigious higher surgical training fellowships; initially at Wrightington Hospital, then the Princess Alexandra Hospital Brisbane, Australia, and finally the Liverpool Upper Limb Unit before being appointed as an NHS Consultant.
A large component of my NHS practice is the treatment of osteoarthritis of the hand and wrist. This includes initial non operative managements in the form of splints, joint injections and analgesia, progressing to surgical interventions such as small joint replacement and fusions when required.
Some of the principal treatments carried out by Mr Matt Owen at Spire include:
Orthopaedics - hand and wrist
