Dr Saagar Mahida
Cardiologist/Heart rhythm specialist
BSc, MBChB, PhD
I am a consultant cardiologist and cardiac electrophysiologist (heart rhythm specialist) based at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital, which is the largest specialist heart hospital in the UK. I have extensive experience as an interventional cardiac electrophysiologist and specialise in complex catheter ablation procedures, including atrial fibrillation ablation. I am the Trust lead for VT ablation and have driven the development of a supra-regional service. I currently proctor electrophysiology consultants from the UK and Europe on advanced catheter ablation techniques.
I have undertaken specialist training in catheter ablation of atrial fibrillation and complex heart rhythm abnormalities a number of internationally recognised centres of excellence. I completed an advanced fellowship focused on atrial fibrillation at Hôpital Haut-Lévêque in Bordeaux, the pioneering centre where the first catheter ablation for atrial fibrillation worldwide was performed. A second year of further specialisation was undertaken at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, a teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School. I have had a unique opportunity to combine advanced ablation techniques from two of the leading electrophysiology centres in Europe and USA.
I have published widely in the field of cardiac electrophysiology and am currently the Chief Investigator for a UK multicentre study. I have previously undertaken a postdoctoral research fellowship for two years at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School. My research focuses on developing novel techniques to improve outcomes catheter ablation. I have authored more than 60 articles, a significant proportion of which are in high-impact medical journals.
My philosophy is centered on delivering the highest level of personalised care for every patient. I take every step to ensure the highest safety standards.
