Dr Saagar Mahida
Cardiologist/Heart rhythm specialist
BSc, MBChB, PhD
I am a Consultant Cardiologist with a special interest in heart rhythm abnormalities, including heart palpitations, atrial fibrillation, ectopic beats, supraventricular tachycardia, and ventricular tachycardia.
I am one of a select number of European heart rhythm specialists to have undertaken advanced specialisation at two of the highest profile centres in the world (the Harvard University-affiliated Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston and Hôpital Haut-Lévêque, Bordeaux, where the first curative ablation for atrial fibrillation worldwide was performed).
I am based at Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital, which is the largest specialist heart hospital in the UK. I specialise in catheter ablation techniques to treat heart rhythm abnormalities, including atrial fibrillation. I have had the privilege to share expertise in advanced catheter ablation techniques by training electrophysiology consultants from the UK and Europe.
I am the Chief Investigator for a UK multicentre study. My research focuses on improving outcomes of catheter ablation by using the latest technologies. My PhD research (undertaken at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School) was focused on atrial fibrillation.
