Specialises in
I have more than 20 years of experience in gynaecology. I completed training in obstetrics and gynaecology in Egypt where I worked as a lecturer and an Assistant Professor and gained a wide range of experience in general gynaecology. I moved to the UK and completed my MD in ovarian cancer research at Newcastle University and completed training in colposcopy in the Northern Gynaecological Oncology Centre (Gateshead). I then completed my subspecialty training in gynaecological cancer at the Pan Birmingham Gynaecological Cancer Centre and was appointed as an NHS Consultant in the same centre.
I have an interest in ovarian cancer and keyhole surgery. I have published many international publications studying the role of surgery in ovarian cancer as well as its biology. In addition to my interest in ovarian cancer surgery (debulking), I also have a special interest in laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery. I worked as a keyhole surgery fellow for two years, obtained a diploma in the subject from Auvergne University (France) and further developed skills and techniques of keyhole surgery in women's cancers.
I continue to be active in cancer research and I am a reviewer for a number of national and international journals and for the Cochrane Collaboration.
My sub-speciality sits within gynaecological cancer surgery, but I have wide experience in surgery for benign gynaecological conditions such as fibroids, endometriosis and period abnormalities.
My areas of interests include; ovarian cancer surgery, laparoscopic surgery, cervical cancer, ovarian cysts, pelvic masses, colposcopy, smear abnormalities, preinvasive cancer, uterine cancer and recurrent cancer.
