I am a highly skilled Ophthalmic Surgeon with extensive clinical experience across the range of ophthalmology.
I graduated from Medical School at the University of Athens in 2007 and subsequently received comprehensive training in ophthalmology. My subspecialty training includes three very prestigious fellowships in vitreoretinal surgery, in Royal Liverpool Hospital, Cheltenham General Hospital and Whipps Cross Hospital in London, as well as dedicated fellowships in cataract surgery and medical retina in Lincoln General and Southampton University Hospitals.
In 2024, I was appointed as Consultant Ophthalmic and Vitreoretinal Surgeon in Northern Care Alliance NHS Trust. I am currently practising in Greater Manchester, Leeds and Yorkshire.
I am proficient in cataract surgery including high-complexity cataract cases, and very experienced in the use of premium intraocular implants including multifocal, toric and extended depth-of-focus lenses.
Moreover, I have excelled in the field of small gauge vitreoretinal surgery, and I have vast experience in a wide range of retinal conditions requiring surgical management. These include floaterectomy; retinal detachments; macular surgery, macular holes and epiretinal membranes; highly complex diabetic retinopathy; secondary intraocular lenses, scleral fixation lenses and more.
I also have extensive knowledge in the management of retinal conditions requiring medical treatment such as age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and other vascular problems of the retina and I am very experienced in ophthalmic lasers.
I routinely perform cataract surgery, as well as both emergency and elective vitreoretinal procedures, with an annual workload exceeding 500 vitrectomy cases.
I am a highly motivated doctor, an incredibly persistent clinician and an extremely resilient surgeon. I take pride in being empathetic and respectful, always tailoring my approach to the individual needs of each patient. I regularly audit my outcomes and have consistently achieved success rates well above the national and international benchmarks. I am often described by colleagues as approachable, reliable, and positive, and I believe these qualities alongside my drive for continual improvement have helped me build trusted, long-standing relationships with both patients and fellow clinicians.
In addition to providing high-quality elective and emergency vitreoretinal care, I am deeply committed to teaching and training. I play an active role in the supervision of ophthalmic trainees and junior surgeons, as well as in undergraduate medical education. I also have a strong academic background, having completed both a Master’s degree and a PhD, with research published in peer-review journals and presented at international conferences. Alongside my clinical and academic work, I contribute to departmental leadership and have led several quality improvement projects across the services in which I have worked.
