If you suffer from headaches for at least 15 days per month and out of these days 8 days are with a migraine headache, you could be suitable for a new injection treatment now being carried out by Consultant Neurologist, Dr Fayyaz Ahmed.
The treatment is now possible following trials and technological advances which NICE (National Institute for Clinical Effectiveness) have accredited as a suitable treatment.
Dr Payyaz Ahmed Consultant Neurologist at Spire Hull and East Riding Hospital pioneered this treatment and has injected 300 patients for this condition. Dr Ahmed was also on the NICE committee for the development of guidelines in the use of injection treatment for chronic migraine.
Patients who have symptoms as described in the NICE criteria of headaches 15 days of the month and at least 8 of these days with migraine can be referred to Dr Ahmed for treatment.
Some private medical insurance companies will cover this treatment - please check with your insurer.
You can also pay for chronic migraine injection treatment. The initial consultation costs £140 where our consultant will assess whether your condition is suitable for injection treatment. If you are suitable, the full cost of treatment is £650, including follow up after treatment.
In some cases the treatment is also available to NHS patients at the Spire Hull and East Riding Hospital, depending on funding authorisation from your PCT (Primary Care Trust).
