Professor Hemant Sharma

I am an experienced orthopaedic surgeon practising at Spire Hull and East Riding Hospital, specialising in conditions affecting the lower limb, including the hip, knee, foot and ankle. My practice includes minimally invasive surgery and complex limb reconstruction techniques, with a strong focus on providing personalised care. I believe it is important that patients feel fully informed and involved at every stage of their treatment journey.

I completed my initial medical training in India before undertaking advanced orthopaedic training in Newcastle and across the Yorkshire region. I went on to further specialise in hip and knee replacement surgery, as well as foot and ankle surgery in Yorkshire, before completing a dedicated limb reconstruction fellowship in Belfast.

I provide assessment and treatment for a wide range of lower limb conditions. My practice includes hip and knee replacement surgery, along with knee and ankle arthroscopy, also known as keyhole surgery. I also treat bunions, including using minimally invasive or keyhole techniques where appropriate, and carry out foot and ankle surgery for a variety of conditions.

A key area of my work is limb reconstruction surgery. This includes deformity correction, treatment for non-union fractures where bones have not healed properly, management of bone infections and advanced Ilizarov techniques for complex limb conditions.

Alongside my clinical practice, I am actively involved in education and research. I regularly teach and lecture across the UK and internationally, and I run internationally recognised orthopaedic courses in Hull. I am committed to a holistic approach to patient care, combining surgical expertise with clear communication and shared decision making to help achieve the best possible outcomes for my patients.
