Mr Zafar Khan
Consultant General Surgeon
MSc, FRCS(Eng), MBBS
"Patient safety and care is a priority. Private and NHS patients are treated with equal high quality care. I find staff to be extremely polite, helpful and caring."
I have been a substantive Consultant Surgeon since 1996. I repair hernia with what is called the TEPP technique whereby mesh is placed outside the inner lining of the stomach. This technique is expected to result in fewer post operative complications.
I specialise in most general surgical procedures; both emergency and elective. I am an experienced surgeon, undertaking hernia and gallbladder surgery as well as performing diagnostic gastroscopies. My interest is laparoscopic surgery and I endeavour to perform the majority of my procedures laparoscopically.
I have performed 4,000 hernia operations; the majority of these laparoscopically. My recurrence rate is favourably comparable to my peers. I have performed over a thousand laparoscopic cholecystectomies (gallbladder surgery). My conversion rate from laparoscopic to an open procedure is less than 3%.
I was first appointed a Consultant General and Vascular Surgeon at United Lincolnshire Hospitals Trust. I moved to Hull University Teaching Hospital to concentrate on laparoscopic surgery and join Hull and York Medical School. I have over 24 years of experience as a Consultant Surgeon.
