Professor Jack Kastelik

Consultant in Respiratory Medicine

BSc, MBChB, MD, FRCP

"I thoroughly enjoy working at the Spire hospitals. Spire hospitals offer exceptional, professional care within a supportive, calm and efficient environment."

I am a Senior Consultant in Respiratory Medicine at Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, where I have worked for over 18 years. I have acquired a wealth of knowledge and specialist expertise in the assessment and care of patients with a wide range of lung conditions. My clinical expertise spans the full spectrum of respiratory medicine, including asthma, COPD, bronchitis, chronic cough, breathlessness, interstitial lung disease, lung cancer, bronchiectasis, pleural disease and sleep apnoea.

I completed my undergraduate training at the Universities of St Andrews and Manchester, followed by specialist respiratory training in Hull and St James’s University Hospital, Leeds, where I also held a Clinical Lectureship. I was awarded an MD from the University of Hull in 2004, with research focused on cough, asthma, COPD, bronchiectasis and lung infection.

Alongside my clinical work, I am Director of Medical Education at Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and an Honorary Professor at Hull York Medical School. I have also served as Training Programme Director for Respiratory Medicine in Yorkshire and the Humber for 10 years. Nationally, I am Chair of the Respiratory Medicine Specialty Advisory Committee and a Regional Advisor for the Royal College of Physicians. I am also President of the Hull Medical Society.

I have published over 120 peer-reviewed articles and contributed to national and international respiratory guidelines and textbooks, helping to shape standards of care in lung disease. I believe that listening to patients is vitally important and, to this end, I will always endeavour to take time to understand the patient's concerns, addressing my patients in an approachable and sympathetic manner and adopting the highest level of communication during my consultations.
