I had been having issues with my shoulder for a while and after no luck with the NHS and a physio telling me nothing else could be done to help me, after about a year I finally plucked up the courage to visit Spire Harpenden. As I have cerebral palsy, I was told in the past that I wouldn’t be able to get a shoulder replacement. However, my consultant Mr Irwin understood exactly what I needed, put me at ease and made me feel like any question I had was worth asking. Mr Irwin made me feel like I’d made the right decision completely and assured me he would carry out the operation in exactly the same way he would (with) anybody else.

The reception staff were fantastic too, very friendly and helpful. It was lovely that throughout the hospital, everybody smiles and says hello – that’s something you don’t get very often these days!

Absolutely everybody, including the cleaners and porters were friendly and always took the time to be generally interested in you.

I also enjoyed the atmosphere at Spire Harpenden, it didn’t feel like a hospital. This can do wonders when you’re worrying about an operation or staying overnight as it helps to put your mind at ease a little.

I spoke to the physio the other day who was also fantastic. Overall, everyone had been great throughout my stay and I’m glad I finally plucked up the courage to get this problem sorted. It’s made a huge difference to my life.
