Some of the principal treatments carried out by Mr Stephen John Burrell at Spire include:
Gynaecology and/or Obstetrics: Prolapse Menstrual Disorders Reproductive health Miscarriage Menorrhagia Menopause Infertility Hysteroscopy Fetal medicine Endometriosis Laparoscopic surgery
I was appointed Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist at Luton & Dunstable Hospital in 2000. I trained in London at Queen Charlotte's and UCH and have dual postgraduate qualifications with both MRCP and MRCOG.
I have special interests in treating heavy periods and pelvic pain and have specific skills in laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery. I offer conservative treatments for heavy periods as well as the latest advances in endometrial ablation. I perform hysterectomy when other options are not suitable and have undergone specific training to enable me to perform this laparoscopically in addition to the more traditional abdominal and vaginal methods.
I have a particular interest in the management of endometriosis which can cause pain and subfertility. Laparoscopy provides a definitive diagnosis and allows laser treatment thereby relieving symptoms and enabling a faster recovery than other surgery methods. It is very rewarding seeing women who have benefited from such surgery.
I run a high quality ultrasound scanning service, performing both gynaecology and pregnancy scans. I have lectured at scientific meetings in the UK and abroad and have been appointed Honorary Senior Lecturer. Since 2009 I have been part of the Council of the British Society of Gynaecological Endoscopy and run a National Course for the Royal College for hysteroscopy.

I live in Harpenden with my wife, three children and a Tonkinese cat. My wife runs a complementary health clinic in St Albans. Together we enjoy tennis, socialising with friends and discovering new restaurants.
My ultimate passions are for windsurfing and skiing despite the number of times I seem to fall over. I enjoy the challenge of teaching these sports to my children.
