I have been an ophthalmic surgeon for 31 years and am an expert in cataract surgery in patients with or without retinal disorders. I specialise in general ophthalmology with specific interests in age related macular degeneration, retinal vascular occlusions, diabetic retinopathy and uveitis.
To date, I have performed 3,424 cataract procedures with lens implants, 3,914 retinal procedures including intravitreal injections, 1,464 laser for the retina, 499 procedures for glaucoma in addition of a variety of other eye procedures including YAG laser capsulotomies and minor lid procedures.
As a lead for urgent eye care and rapid access service, I am dedicated to ensuring that the services we offer are safe, effective, well led, caring and responsive.
I have been awarded a Diploma in Cataract and Refractive Surgery from Ulster University, UK. I completed my basic ophthalmic specialist training in Tennent Institute of Ophthalmology, UK, followed by training at the University Hospital of Leicester. My subspecialty training culminated in a two-year retina and uveitis at the prestigious University Hospital of Cambridge and Moorfields Eye Hospital in London.
I am an NHS Consultant ophthalmic surgeon at Lister Hospital, Stevenage and the New QE II, Welwyn Garden City.
My busy clinical practice is complemented by my involvement in teaching and research. I lecture widely to doctors, surgeons, patient groups, GPs and other health professionals. I have published research work and articles in the international peer reviewed journals.
