FAQs about digestive health care

Do I need a referral to see a gastroenterologist or surgeon?
Not always. Many of our consultants accept self-referrals, so you can book an appointment directly without going through your GP. If you have private medical insurance, check with your provider, as some insurers do require a GP referral.

How much does private digestive health care cost?
Initial consultations typically start from £200 though this can vary by consultant and each consultant sets their own consultation fees so please check before making the appointment. You will be informed of the cost of any tests or treatments before they take place. We’ll provide clear pricing and payment options so you know what to expect.

Can I get a private colonoscopy or endoscopy?
Yes we offer these tests with short waiting times. Your consultant will explain whether you need one and what’s involved.

What’s the difference between gastroenterology and general surgery?
Gastroenterologists are specialists who diagnose and manage digestive and bowel symptoms using medication, lifestyle advice and minimally invasive treatments. General and colorectal surgeons are trained to perform operations on the digestive tract if surgery is needed.
