I am an experienced, Registered Member MBACP (Accred) counsellor and psychotherapist. Please see www.bacp.co.uk for more information. I work with couples, individuals and young people and I provide clinical supervision to experienced and trainee counsellors. I was originally trained by Relate, I have an MA in counselling from York St John University and I studied CBT at the University of York.

My current work is as a private practitioner with individuals, couples and young people. I also take on short-term contracts with corporate clients and occupational health/wellbeing organisations. Whoever you are I offer you a safe and welcoming service designed around you and the issues you wish to explore.

I am also a Couple Therapy for Depression IAPT Practitioner and Supervisor, accredited by BSCPC. All my work is fully insured and I hold an enhanced CRB/DBS check. I have spent many years working as an NHS mental health therapist, staff counsellor, counselling service manager and clinical supervisor.

I offer remedial counselling to help clients learn different coping strategies and manage their difficulties (which may be work-related stress, work-home balance or relationship difficulties) and cognitive behavioural therapy for specific diagnosable problems such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, etc. The CBT work I do is also underpinned by Roger’s core conditions, enabling the client and myself to engage in a beneficial working alliance so we can gain a shared view and understanding of the problem and commit to an agreed treatment plan. This treatment plan will include tasks and exercises to be undertaken outside of sessions, and the client has to be prepared to make time for this extra work on their own between our therapy sessions.

I remember feeling concerned that I was asking people to set targets and complete tasks and activities (agreed to by the client and based on their agenda) and realising that if I expected them to comply with this treatment plan, in terms of fairness and equality, it might be useful for me to try out some sustained activity for myself. So I took up horse riding and have never looked back. This activity has enhanced my life and I try to work with people to help them achieve things that will enhance their lives and aid recovery. I have since qualified as an EAGALA Certified Professional, offering Equine Facilitated Learning (EFL) and Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP), working with nature and the herd to introduce clients to the therapeutic benefits of horses.

Most of my work is based in Keighley and surrounding areas. EFL and EAP work is offered at a riding school in Halifax. Our first meeting would be for initial assessment session of one hour, this is so both you and I can decide whether we want to work together, and what form our work will take. If we do decide to work together we will usually meet for one hour per week until we have accomplished your goals.
