I qualified at UCD in Ireland in 1990. I was awarded the gold medal in medicine for a first class honour in that subject. I undertook a PhD in Leeds and started as a consultant in 2000.
My work on psoriatic arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis is internationally known and I am developing a website for patients to better understand these diseases.
I am an internationally known expert in inflammatory and degenerative diseases having published over 250 papers. This work covers research into diverse conditions including the seronegative arthropathies, gout and pseudogout, lupus, vasculitis, polymyalgia rheumatica, rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis.
My seminal work and concepts has changed the way diseases of the immune system are viewed by doctors and scientists.
