Specialises in
Having trained as a specialist registrar at the Oxford Eye Hospital, I completed a two-year fellowship in vitreo-retinal surgery. I have been working as a Consultant Ophthalmologist at Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust since September 2002, providing a vitreo-retinal service to the whole of Huddersfield, Halifax and the surrounding areas. I have a special interest in combined cataract and vitreo-retinal surgery and have many publications on this subject.
I have pioneered non-posturing macular hole surgery and rigorously perform outcome audits on my surgeries to maintain an above average success rate. I was one of the first surgeons in the UK to offer small incision (23G, 0.6mm) vitrectomy to my patients to allow quicker visual rehabilitation. Currently I have adapted an even smaller incision (27G, 0.4mm) vitrectomy to allow quick and painless vitreo-retinal surgery.
I offer vitrectomy surgery for a variety of retinal conditions including floaters, macular hole, epiretinal membrane, retinal detachment etc. I am a keen researcher having published over 30 publications in peer reviewed journals. I regularly present my work in ophthalmology meetings such as BEAVRS, ASRS and EURETINA. I have co-authored over 50 abstracts in various national and international meetings. I am a reviewer for prestigious journals such as Eye, JCRS and Retina.
