I am an experienced Consultant in Hepatology and Gastroenterology. I have developed, managed and led the loco-regional Hepatology Service and the Viral Hepatitis Programme, recognised by the British Liver Trust to be a specialist centre.
I qualified from Charing Cross and Westminster Medical in 1992. Following medical posts at Westminster Hospital, Kings College and St Thoma's Hospital, I undertook Gastroenterology training at Kings College Hospital and North Thames London. I underwent Hepatology training including liver transplant Hepatology at Kings College and Royal Free Hospital before undertaking a highly sought after Advanced Hepatology Fellowship at Mount Sinai Hospital, New York, USA focused on liver transplantation, rare liver diseases, viral hepatitis and translational liver research.
I have recognised expertise in the management of complicated Gastroenterology and Hepatology problems including liver transplant assessment, management of chronic liver disease and treatment of viral hepatitis, which have provided a robust clinical and research foundation on which I developed my practice as a Consultant. I am the National Institute for Health and Research Regional Lead for Hepatology (Surrey and Sussex), member of the NICE Team in developing the 2013 Guidelines Hepatitis B management of adults and children.
I have an ongoing active collaborative links with the liver centres in the UK, Europe and USA, which has allowed me to develop and build my clinical and research portfolio, continuing to publish in high impact scientific journals. My clinical and research experience was recognised by the award of the Royal College of Physicians Dame Sheila Sherlock Travelling Fellowship. I have the recipient of Welcome Trust Research Training Fellowship, National Gilead Fellowship in recognition of my community outreach research and viral hepatitis in high risk populations.
