I was appointed as a consultant surgeon to the Derbyshire royal infirmary in 1995 and was subsequently appointed to Frimley park hospital in 1998. As a senior registrar I developed a special interest in colorectal surgery. I was one of the early developers of laparoscopic colorectal surgery and have been a trainer on the national programme since its inception. More recently I have developed a major interest in robotic surgery. Whilst I trained as a general surgeon working in all areas of the speciality I have focused particularly on laparoscopic surgery and my main research interest is the improvement of rectal cancer surgery. I am an accredited colonoscopist for the national bowel cancer screening programme. Improving the treatment of rectal cancer and training the next generation of surgeons has been my main focus.
Some of the procedures carried our by me are: Laparoscopic and tension free mesh hernia repair Laparoscopic cholecystectomy Colorectal cancer and inflammatory bowel disease Diagnostic and therapeutic colonoscopy Treatment of haemorrhoids and other perianal conditions
I have done over 12000 colonoscopies, over 1000 operations to remove bowel cancer and over 400 resections for rectal.
