I have been a Consultant in Rheumatology and General Medicine for over 12 years. In my first 2 years at Kingston I established an Osteoporosis Service locally. They now run a service with all the latest treatments available. I then trained in musculoskeletal US and image guided spinal injections. This aids early detection of inflammatory arthritis and allows accurate aspiration & injections, if needed.
I am experienced with complex biologics treatments with over 400 patients under our care at the unit. Linking in to the US theme I am very experienced at dealing with sports and soft tissue injuries and have a long association with sporting bodies. Having been an international sportsman myself, I have a good insight in to the goals and needs of injured athletes.
I am also experienced at administering autologous blood injections for difficult tendonopathies. I also offer treatment for the general rheumatology problems of osteoarthritis, gout and more rare autoimmune disorders.
After passing my MRCP, I joined the London Rheumatology and GIM Registrar rotation in 1992. I was awarded a 3 year ARC Research Fellowship in 1995 based at The Royal London Hospital where I researched the effects of exercise in inflamed joints. An MD for this work was awarded in 1999. I was appointed at Kingston in Feb 2000.
My spare time is spent mostly with my family generally doing as I am told! In my younger days I was a two time British Powerlifting Champion and placed 5th in the 1997 World Championships. I still go to the gym regularly and coach youngsters when I can. I compete once a year in the Masters, it takes that long to recover! I have been the Medical Advisor for the BDFPA for nearly 20 years.
