Some of the principal treatments carried out by Dr Heather Joanne Shannon at Spire include:
I graduated with Honours from the Queen's University Belfast in 2002, after gaining a number of undergraduate prizes. I began my cardiology training at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast, including a period of clinical research leading to the award of an MD. I then completed a highly prestigious fellowship in Milan, under the mentorship of Dr Antonio Colombo, a world authority in interventional cardiology. Through this, I gained unparalleled experience in coronary and structural intervention including transcatheter valve procedures. I returned from Milan to complete my training at Imperial College London with a further fellowship in Interventional Cardiology at the Hammersmith Hospital.
I took up a Consultant post at Frimley Park Hospital in October 2012. I am a Cardiologist with a particular interest in ischaemic heart disease, especially coronoary angioplasty and stenting for both stable angina and the emergency treatment of myocardial infarction. I also have an interest in structural intervention including PFO/ASD closures and in transcatherter valve procedures for patients considered high-risk candidates for convential open heart surgery.
In addition I have expertise in cardiac CT as a diagnostic tool in the assessment of patients with chest pain.
