Kieran's story

There is no ‘average day’ working at Spire Healthcare, every day is different and never boring!

Great development opportunities

How long have you been working at Spire Healthcare?

I have been working at Spire Healthcare for just under a year (as of May 2024).

What made you choose a career at Spire Healthcare?

I have worked in the healthcare industry all my working life and was settled in my previous role, but I needed a new challenge. I saw the job opportunity and thought it would be perfect in allowing me to improve my skillset and branch out into a different career path.

What’s an average working day like for you?

There is no ‘average day’ working at Spire Healthcare, every day is different and never boring!

What do you enjoy most about your role?

I not only enjoy the working relationships with my colleagues across the three hospitals (Spire South Bank, Spire Little Aston and Spire Parkway) I work across, but I also enjoy the culture across the wider team I work in. Everyone in the Business Development team across the Spire Healthcare network of hospitals and clinics is happy to go above and beyond to share best practice and provide advice on situations they’ve had first-hand experience in – which makes my working day to day life much easier!

What do you find most challenging? And how do you overcome those challenges?

Being across several hospitals, I initially found it challenging to manage the expectations of the different teams. In order to overcome this challenge, I began to focus on areas in my role which were most urgent, with these tasks taking priority.

What valuable skills have you learnt since joining Spire Healthcare?

Since joining Spire Healthcare, I have improved my communication and time management skills. Being across three hospitals, these skills are important as I have to balance my workloads and communicate with several stakeholders at different levels.

What are you most proud of?

I am proud of the fact that, whilst I’ve worked in the healthcare industry for several years, I am relatively new to Business Development. Despite this, I have achieved so much for all three of my hospitals in the short time I’ve been here. Within the next three months, my role is changing to Business Development Executive, which is a massive accomplishment in such a short space of time.

What advice would you give to someone who is interested in getting into your career field?

Go for it! It’s an interesting role, with various career progression opportunities available.
