Each of our Haematology laboratories provide a comprehensive screening and diagnostic service using state-of-the art technological platforms as well as numerous manual laboratory processes.
All of our laboratories perform routine haematological and haemostastic screening tests, including Full Blood Count (FBC) investigations, blood cell morphology and coagulation screening tests such as the INR. In additional to these we also perform a comprehensive range of haematinic and haemoglobinopathy tests.
Each Blood Transfusion laboratory provides a comprehensive Red Cell Immunohaematology service, utilize Diamed’s Gel Test ID-Micro Typing System we routinely perform ABO and Rhesus typing, antibody screening and identification, as well as full serological cross-matching.
All Spire Pathology transfusion departments are registered with the MHRA. We participate in both UKNEQAS External (http://www.ukneqas.org.uk) and the Welsh Assessment of Serological Proficiency Scheme (http://www.waspsqa.org.uk). Spire Pathology is also a stakeholder in the National Comparative Audit of Blood Transfusion program, has a presence on the WASP’s steering committee and has its own Haematology and Blood Transfusion Standardisation Group.
Spire Pathology Services provide routine biochemistry at all of our satellite laboratories, including kidney, liver and cardiac profiles. All of our satellite sites utilize Ortho Clinical Diagnostics VITROS® dry slide chemistry platform, the VITROS® 350. This platform is ideal for a multi-disciplined laboratory environment, providing high quality results with the minimum of operator intervention and excellent efficiency.
Spire Pathology Services’ Immunology Reference Laboratory (IRL) offers one of the largest ImmunoCap® repertoires of allergens in the UK utilising ultra-sensitive, allergen specific immunoglobulin E (IgE) tests able to identify a patient’s risk of reaction to specific allergens.
Our laboratory service is led by scientific and clinical specialists, offering both clinical support and one of the most extensive test menus in the UK.
Spire Pathology Services' nationwide network of 20 laboratories provides convenient access to specimen collection services in relaxed and friendly settings. We are also able to offer flexible options for test ordering and result reporting, including a web-based application that provides convenient and timely access to results 24/7.
