Mr Shashank Chitgopkar

I trained in India before completing my Trauma and Orthopaedic training as a Specialist Registrar on the Mersey rotation. I further developed my expertise in spinal surgery through fellowships at the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital in Oswestry, Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, Hope Hospital in Salford and the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital.

My clinical practice covers a wide range of spinal conditions, including adult spinal deformity, cervical spine disorders and degenerative conditions of the spine such as disc prolapse, back pain and spinal stenosis. I also manage spinal fractures, infections and spinal tumours, and perform a range of surgical procedures including spinal decompression, fusion and instrumentation.

I have a holistic outlook, which informs my approach to clinical practice. Outside medicine, I have a strong interest in exploring the relationship between science, mythology and philosophy and have been invited to lecture on these topics. I have also shared this work publicly on YouTube (shashank.chitgopkar).
