All of your consultations will take place in one of our 11 accessible private rooms, so don’t worry if you have pain when walking. During your consultations, we'll:
Once you’ve decided to go ahead with hip surgery, your consultant and physiotherapist will explain your recovery plan. Both your initial consultation and tests at this stage are charged separately to the cost of any treatment needed.
You should be with us for around two days.
You’ll meet your consultant and surgical team who’ll prepare you for your operation. If you’ve come with a friend or family member, they’re welcome to wait while you have your operation.
Anaesthetic options
You’ll probably have a spinal anaesthetic, where you’re numb from the waist down. Your anaesthetist can also give you sedatives to help you relax during the operation.
During your operation
Your consultant will make the necessary incisions and begin to remove worn or damaged areas of your hip joint. They’ll then fit your new hip and close your incisions. The operation should take between an hour and an hour and a half.
Your private room
After your hip replacement procedure, you’ll stay in one of our 33 private rooms for a couple of nights. Our ward staff will always be around to make sure you’re comfortable. All our large private rooms include:
What happens
You’ll receive pain relief medication to help you recover in comfort. Your physiotherapist will get you moving as soon as you feel ready and will provide exercises to help you make the most of your hip replacement.
When you’re ready, your physiotherapist will help you walk again and provide exercises to boost your recovery.
