Mr Stephen Goodyear

Consultant Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon

Specialises in

I was appointed as a Consultant Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon in 2014 with my NHS practice based at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust. I am currently the Clinical Lead for vascular surgery and major trauma within the trust, serving as a member of the Birmingham, Black Country, Herefordshire and Worcestershire Trauma Network Board.

Following primary medical qualification at the University of Leicester (2001), I have trained in general, vascular and endovascular surgery across the Midlands, with my specialist training within the West Midlands Deanery. I have supported my training by completion of a Doctorate of Medicine by Research (MD) at the University of Warwick (2009) alongside a PGA in Medical Education (2007). As a senior registrar, I completed the medtronic endovascular university course and was the national representative for vascular registrars at the Council of the Vascular Society of Great Britain and Ireland (2013-2015).

Additional information

Vascular surgery

Outside of hospital practice, I maintain my longstanding interest in pre-hospital trauma care as the Chief Medical Officer for the British Motorcycle Racing Club. This role provides regular exposure to critical injury and damage-control resuscitation, which proves invaluable experience for the management of vascular (and other) emergencies within hospital practice. Leading and developing an experienced multidisciplinary clinical team within this environment has proved professionally and personally rewarding.  After 13 years working with the club, I remain an avid motorcyclist!

I have maintained interests in clinical research and training throughout my career. I regularly teach on regional and national courses in the fields of vascular surgery, perioperative care and major trauma. Most recently, I have trained as a medical mentor and hope to offer guidance and support to newly appointed colleagues as they develop their independent practice.

My family and I have recently relocated to Worcestershire and have immersed ourselves in the scenic countryside and outdoor activities afforded. My interests include rugby, snowboarding (badly), music and spending time with my family.
