I am a Consultant Dermatologist with extensive experience in diagnosing and treating a wide range of skin conditions, including eczema and dermatitis, psoriasis, acne, skin cancer and benign skin lesions such as moles and skin tags.
I qualified in Medicine and Dermatology before completing specialist accreditation in Dermatology through the Yorkshire Training Programme in 1987. Originally trained and practising as a dermatologist in India, I moved to the UK in 1976 and was later awarded Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians (FRCP London) in 1999.
I was appointed Consultant Dermatologist at Scunthorpe and Goole in 1995 before moving to Hull in 1997 to help develop dermatology services across both hospital and community settings. During my time in Hull, I played a leading role in restructuring local dermatology services, developing community clinics, specialist clinics, leg ulcer services and “lump and bump” clinics, helping to improve access to care and reduce waiting times. I also served as Clinical Governance Lead for Dermatology, supporting safe and high-quality clinical practice within the NHS Trust.
Alongside my clinical work, I have a longstanding commitment to teaching and education. I have taught dermatology trainees, GPs, physician associates, nurses and members of the public, and have also been involved in developing educational modules, directing courses and examining higher specialist dermatology examinations.
My research interests have included genetic, biological and therapeutic advances in dermatology. I have published more than 200 papers in peer-reviewed medical journals, with some cited in major dermatology textbooks, and have also authored dermatology textbooks for both specialists and general practitioners. During my research career, I received several national and international awards, including the 18th World Congress of Dermatology Award in New York in 1992 for scientific presentation work.
I have maintained close professional and teaching links with my medical school in Bombay, including supporting the development of its dermatology department and providing scholarships for underprivileged students.
My approach to patient care focuses on providing clear advice, accurate diagnosis and personalised treatment plans, helping patients feel informed, reassured and supported throughout their care.
