Specialises in
I am a Consultant Cardiologist with over a decade of clinical experience, and I lead the inherited cardiac conditions and sports cardiology service at Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. I studied medicine in Norwich before completing my cardiology training across Yorkshire and Lincolnshire. During my training, I undertook a Cardiac Risk in the Young fellowship at St George’s, University of London, where I completed my PhD focusing on the prevention of sudden cardiac death.
My specialist practice focuses on inherited cardiac conditions and sports cardiology. I regularly assess and manage conditions such as cardiomyopathies (heart muscle diseases), myocarditis (inflammation of the heart), athlete’s heart and ion channel disorders, which affect the heart’s electrical activity. I provide clinical and genetic assessments, support family screening where conditions may run in families, and help interpret post-mortem findings. I work closely within a multidisciplinary team and collaborate across regional and national networks to ensure patients receive coordinated, high-quality care.
I am particularly passionate about preventative cardiology. This includes screening for early detection of silent (quiescent) heart conditions that can increase the risk of sudden cardiac arrest. I have been closely involved with Cardiac Risk in the Young and have contributed to screening programmes for organisations including the Football Association, Rugby Football Union and elite-level cricket. Following screening, I guide individuals through further assessment, risk evaluation, advice on safe levels of exercise, and decisions about returning to sport.
Alongside my specialist work, I provide general cardiology care for symptoms such as chest pain, palpitations, breathlessness and fainting (syncope), as well as coronary artery disease. I hold accreditation in cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging and have extensive training in interventional cardiology, which allows me to take a well-rounded, informed approach to heart care.
I believe clear communication and shared decision-making are essential. I take time to explain conditions and treatment options in a way that is easy to understand, so you feel confident and supported in your care.
My clinical work is supported by ongoing academic involvement, including peer-reviewed publications, book chapters and contributions to guidelines. My research has been recognised internationally, including three consecutive British Cardiovascular Society ‘Best of the Best’ awards and Young Investigator Award finalist recognition at major conferences. I also hold an Honorary Lectureship at St George’s, where I lead an MSc module in Sports Cardiology.
