Specialises in
I am a full-time Consultant Neurosurgeon and Complex Spine Surgeon based in Leeds, with a specialist interest in the comprehensive management of degenerative spinal conditions (wear and tear), minimally invasive tissue-sparing spinal surgery, and the evolving field of spinal care in the ageing population.
I completed neurosurgical training in Glasgow, Leeds, Plymouth, and Sheffield, followed by a spinal fellowship in Newcastle. This fellowship focused on both surgical and non-surgical management of degenerative spinal changes, adult spinal deformity, trauma, and spinal tumours.
After more than a decade performing both cranial and spinal surgery, I now dedicate my clinical practice exclusively to spinal surgery. My work spans conservative treatments, spinal injections, and both routine and complex spinal operations. My approach to care is grounded in personalised, evidence-based decision-making, with a strong emphasis on improving function and quality of life for patients. I collaborate closely with physiotherapists and pain specialists to provide multidisciplinary, patient-centred care.
I am deeply committed to academic spine research. During my training, I completed a two-year laboratory-based research project under Dr Sean Lawler (Leeds/Harvard University), which led to the award of a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from the University of Leeds.
I have also participated in collaborative European research on augmented reality in neurosurgical training, helping bridge the gap between traditional surgery and digital innovation. My international collaborations include work with researchers in Toronto and Vancouver.
Currently, I am pursuing a Master of Business Administration (MBA) in Healthcare Management, which will complement my clinical role by enhancing my understanding of how spinal services can be delivered more efficiently, safely, and effectively within complex healthcare systems.
I have published five book chapters and over thirty articles and abstracts in peer-reviewed journals. I have presented extensively on spinal surgery and have served as an invited faculty member for numerous hands-on courses and lectures, both nationally and internationally. I also hold an honorary senior lectureship at the University of Leeds and is actively involved in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. Additionally, he serves as Associate Editor for the British Journal of Neurosurgery and is a peer reviewer for the European Spine Journal and World Neurosurgery.
I continue to be committed to delivering holistic, outcome-driven care that enhances quality of life, mobility, and independence for patients-particularly those coping with the dual challenges of spinal degeneration and ageing.
I have published five book chapters on spinal surgery and more than 30 articles/abstracts in peer-reviewed academic journals. I have also presented extensively in spinal surgery, both nationally and internationally.
