I completed Specialist Registrar training in Gastroenterology within the North West Deanery. Following a two‑year period of research into gastric cancer, I was awarded a Doctorate of Medicine (MD) from the University of Liverpool. I subsequently undertook advanced training in endoscopic techniques, including colonoscopy and ERCP, as an advanced endoscopy fellow within the professorial unit at the Royal Liverpool University Hospital between 2011 and 2012.
I worked as a Consultant Gastroenterologist at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals from 2012 to 2024, where I served as Head of the Gastroenterology Department and Endoscopy Lead between 2018 and 2022. In June 2024, I was invited to work as a Consultant Gastroenterologist at the Royal Liverpool University Teaching Hospital, contributing to regional specialist services in gastroenterology, hepatology and endoscopy. I have since returned to Blackpool Teaching Hospitals.
I have provided private patient services at Spire Fylde Coast Hospital since 2014. I am a certified endoscopy trainer and teach at the Mersey School of Endoscopy (National Endoscopy Training Centre). I also held the role of Director of the Lancashire and South Cumbria North West Endoscopy Academy from 2022 to 2024 and continue to train endoscopists in the region. I maintain full accreditation and performance standards, including endoscopy key performance indicators, and am an accredited Bowel Cancer Screening Colonoscopist.
I am actively involved in clinical research, supporting the delivery of evidence‑based care. Through my clinical and academic work, I have developed strong collaborative links with surgical and radiological colleagues locally and across tertiary centres including Leeds, Liverpool and Manchester.
My clinical practice covers all aspects of gastroenterology, hepatology and endoscopy. This includes diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy, such as gastroscopy, colonoscopy and polyp removal, as well as gastrointestinal cancer screening and surveillance. I manage a wide range of conditions including dyspepsia, reflux and indigestion, irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis), and disorders of the liver, bile ducts and pancreas, including ERCP‑based treatments.
