Professional profile

I am a Consultant Cardiologist at the Lancashire Cardiac Centre in Blackpool - a large tertiary cardiology / cardiothoracic centre and the regional heart attack centre. I graduated from Oxford University in 1995, winning the cardiology prize. In 2006 I was awarded a DM (Oxon) doctoral degree, winning an ESC young investigator finalists award for this work. I undertook Cardiology Specialist Registrar training in North West London, receiving a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in both General Internal Medicine and Cardiology. I am trained in all aspects of cardiology, with particular expertise in interventional cardiology and non-invasive imaging. I have undertaken interventional fellowships in London, Liverpool and Zürich. Since 2013 I have also been undertaking medico-legal instructions and writing medico-legal reports.

I am a fully trained General and Interventional Cardiologist. I specialise in the following areas: general cardiology; the investigation and management of coronary artery disease, including stable angina, acute coronary syndromes and myocardial infractions; cardiology research; coronary intervention including angiography and stent implantation including treating complex lesions; hypertension, arrhythmia management, heat failure and non-invasive imaging including: echocardiography, myocardial perfusion scans, exercise tests etc. I have a specialist interest in complex lipid management for which I am the trust lead. I undertake regular angiography and angioplasty sessions at Blackpool Victoria Hospital. I undertake regular medico-legal reports.

Up to date, I have performed and/or interpreted over 4000 echocardiography studies; over 5000 coronary angiography procedures; over 3000 coronary angioplasty procedures and over 1000 myocardial perfusion scan reports. I undertake weekly exercise tests, echocardiography studies and 24 hour tapes. I have 3 weekly cath lab sessions. I have written over 20 medico-legal reports in the past 4 years.

From 2014 until 2017 I was the Lead for the Liverpool Medical Students attached to Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, in charge of their curriculum activities and pastoral care. Since April 2017 I have been the Director of Research, Development and Innovation at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
