I was appointed as Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at The Mid Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust in January 2013. Private practice is well established at both Spire Elland and Spire Leeds Methley Park hospitals. My specialist interests include the management of sports injuries, soft tissue knee reconstruction and lower limb joint replacement surgery, particularly in young adults. I am affiliated to a number of elite sports clubs in the Yorkshire region including Super League and Championship rugby league teams.
Between 2010 and 2012, I completed two highly specialist surgical fellowships which provided an excellent spring board into my consultant practice. The first was a superb, high volume fellowship in 2010 working with eminent surgeon Nick London in Harrogate. The second was a prestigious national fellowship at the Royal Derby Hospital, working alongside two internationally renowned surgeons: Tim Wilton (past BOA president) and Guido Geutjens (Derby County Football, sports knee surgeon). During this valuable 2 years period of senior fellowship training, I completed over 1200 independent operations on the knee and hip.
In the year 2000, I graduated in the top 5% of the national cohort by gaining an honours degree in medicine and surgery. I then completed both basic and higher surgical training in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery within the Yorkshire region. In 2009 (at the age of 31) I became one of the youngest surgeons ever to pass the Royal College Fellowship examinations and my name was added to the GMC Specialist Register in 2011.
To date I have performed over 6000 operations including 2000 knee arthroscopies, 1000 total knee replacements, 500 ACL reconstructions, 300 unicompartmental knee replacements and 500 total hip replacements. The 2017 National Joint Registry (NJR) report confirmed that I am currently 100% compliant with the use of ODEP 10A rated implants for both knee and hip replacements, confirming full compliance with NICE benchmarking for surgery.
I was recently selected as one of only 3 UK surgeons to host a national and international Visiting Surgeon Programme (VSP). This involves consultant surgeon colleagues from across Europe and the UK visiting my operating theatre to gain experience in contemporary soft tissue knee surgery techniques. I am an active member of a European leadership excellence programme based in Zurich, which focuses on orthopaedic product innovation and implant design. At the recent British Orthopaedic Association meeting in Liverpool, I was awarded first prize for outstanding performance in arthroscopic knee surgery, following a practical assessment that takes into consideration a surgeon’s visuospatial skills, dexterity and efficiency.
I am currently a lead investigator for a national multi-centre clinical research trial to evaluate the BioPoly RS implant – an innovative device to treat young adults with knee arthritis. My research work has been presented at international meetings and published in peer-reviewed journals, most recently in the United States.

I was born in West Yorkshire and still live in the local area. I am married with two young children. My main interest outside surgery is sport, in particular, competitive trail and fell running in the Yorkshire Dales, Peak District and Cumbria.
In 2017, I completed the iconic Yorkshire 3 peaks race in a class A time of 3 hours 39 minutes and was delighted with my first ever race at Ben Nevis, finishing with a sub 2-hour time on Britain’s highest mountain. I have previously been a Yorkshire champion at both cross-country running and 1500m and played senior level football in the West Riding County Amateur League. In the spring and summer months, I also enjoy a leisurely game of golf with friends and colleagues.
