Specialises in
I have been a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in knee surgery since 2016. My NHS practice is based at the Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital in Oswestry, one of only four stand‑alone specialist orthopaedic centres in the UK, with an international reputation for excellence in orthopaedics.
Oswestry is a tertiary referral centre, meaning I regularly see patients from across the UK with complex knee problems or those seeking a second opinion. This has provided me with extensive experience in managing challenging and specialist cases.
In recent years, I have been involved in developing several national commissioning policies relating to osteochondral allografts (knee transplants) and focal knee resurfacing procedures. I have also contributed to a national consensus document as part of a specialist group focused on osteotomy surgery.
I have been Director of Medical Education at Oswestry since 2019. Our surgical training programme is one of the most prestigious in the country, and I take great pride in maintaining and developing its high standards. In 2021, I established a national complex cartilage meeting, which I chair monthly. This forum brings together specialists from across the UK to discuss complex cases and improve outcomes for patients with challenging knee conditions. I am also regularly invited to lecture both nationally and internationally.
I am a highly specialised knee surgeon and perform a large volume of procedures each year. My practice includes – total and partial knee replacement, arthroscopic (keyhole) surgery, osteotomies (realignment surgery), and cartilage restoration procedures. I have a particular interest in treating younger patients with arthritis, aiming to preserve and restore joint function wherever possible. I manage all aspects of knee surgery apart from revision (re‑do) knee replacements.
Each year, I perform – over 100 total knee replacements, approximately 30 partial knee replacements, more than 25 osteotomies, over 200 knee arthroscopies, more than 30 ligament reconstructions and over 25 cartilage regenerative procedures. These volumes are significantly higher than the UK average, reflecting my specialist practice. I also offer a range of knee injections, including platelet‑rich plasma (PRP) and Arthrosamid®.
I work closely with a team of scientists from the University of Keele and am actively involved in collaborative research. This allows me to remain at the forefront of developments in knee surgery, with our work regularly published and presented internationally.
My areas of expertise include – cartilage regeneration, osteotomy surgery, and meniscal and osteochondral transplantation.
