Mr David Rose
Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon
BSc (Hons), MB BS, FRCS (Tr & Orth)
Specialises in
I am a fellowship trained Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising solely in the treatment of patients with shoulder and elbow problems. My aim is to achieve the best possible outcomes for my patients, whether this involves surgical or non-surgical treatments. When surgery is chosen I use modern, evidence-based techniques that, where possible, use minimally invasive keyhole approaches in order to restore as rapid return to function as possible whilst minimising the risk of complications. Advances in surgical equipment, techniques and knowledge are occurring at an exponential rate. Since my practice is focused almost exclusively on the shoulder, and therefore on relatively few conditions and treatments, this has allowed me to keep up to date with the most innovative techniques, compared with the more “generalist” orthopaedic surgeon.
I was appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust in 2014, and spend all of my time assessing and treating patients with shoulder and elbow problems. This has enabled me to develop experience in the latest cutting-edge keyhole techniques in shoulder and elbow surgery, enabling my patients to recover quicker and achieve the best possible outcomes.
I qualified from the Royal Free and University College London Medical School in 2000 and went on to complete Trauma & Orthopaedic specialist training on the London South West Thames training rotation. To complete my training, I undertook specialist Orthopaedic Fellowships at the Johns Hopkins Medical Centre, USA, the Perth Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Centre, Australia, and at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Trust, during which time I was fortunate enough to train under a number of world-renowned surgeons.
I supervise the training of orthopaedic surgical registrars and have recently appointed a shoulder and elbow fellow at the trust. I have recently taken over Chairmanship of the South East Thames Shoulder & Elbow Group, which is a group of leading regional shoulder surgeons that meet to share ideas and discuss complex cases.
I have published extensively in peer-reviewed orthopaedic journals, presented my work at international conferences and continue to be actively involved in research.
