I have worked as a Consultant Physician and Gastroenterologist since 1997. I graduated from Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School in 1987 after completing an intercalated degree in physiology. After training in general medicine and gastroenterology in London and the Home Counties, I worked in research investigating H pylori, acid and dyspepsia and was awarded an MD in 1995. I was Senior Registrar to Professor David Silk at Central Middlesex Hospital, London until May 1997 when I was appointed to the Tunbridge Wells Hospital.
I am an active member of the British Society of Gastroenterology (BSG). I was appointed Secretary (2005-9) and Chair of the Clinical Services and Standards Committee (2009-15). I was Associate Editor for Guidelines to Gut and was Deputy Editor to Frontline Gastroenterology (2009-11). I established the BSG Independent Practice Committee in 2010 and now represent my colleagues in Surrey, Sussex and Kent.

I was a co-author of the NICE Guidelines on Ulcerative Colitis. I was co-editor and co-author of the BSG Handbook for Independent Practice.
I resigned from the Tunbridge Wells Hospital in September 2017 after over 20 years working as a consultant physician and gastroenterologist.
