I am a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in hip and knee replacement surgery, providing private treatment at Spire Hull Hospital for patients across Hull, East Yorkshire and the surrounding areas. My focus is on helping people regain mobility, reduce pain and return to everyday activities as safely and comfortably as possible.
A key area of my practice is enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS). This approach combines modern anaesthetic techniques, effective pain management and early mobilisation to support a smoother recovery and reduce the risk of complications after surgery. For many patients, this can mean returning home on the same day as their operation or within 24 hours.
I am the lead surgeon for the day-case joint replacement pathway at Spire Hull Hospital. For suitable patients, this pathway allows discharge on the day of surgery, while most others are able to return home the following day. I also perform the SPAIRE muscle- and tendon-sparing hip replacement technique, which is designed to preserve important soft tissues around the hip and improve stability after surgery. This can be particularly beneficial for active patients looking to return to work or sport, as well as for people with spinal conditions who may have a higher risk of hip dislocation. In addition, I offer computer-navigated knee replacement surgery to improve surgical accuracy and joint balance.
My orthopaedic training took place in Leeds, Yorkshire and the Northeast of England, followed by specialist hip and knee replacement training at the Golden Jubilee National Hospital in Glasgow.
Alongside my clinical practice, I currently serve as Clinical Director for Orthopaedics at Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and North Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Trust. I am also Clinical Chair for Orthopaedics within the Humber and North Yorkshire ICB, and an Honorary Lecturer at Hull York Medical School.
As well as hip and knee replacement surgery, I treat a wide range of joint conditions and causes of joint pain. My practice includes joint injections, joint manipulation procedures, revision hip surgery, osteotomy and other arthroplasty procedures. I always aim to provide personalised treatment and support to help each patient achieve the best possible outcome.
