I have in excess of 35 years of clinical and surgical experience across three continents, with sub-specialty ophthalmic training in cornea and refractive surgery. I see patients for a wide variety of eye conditions including astigmatism, refractive surgery (eyes), cataract surgery, external eye disorders, presbyopia, cataracts, glaucoma, lacrimal disorders, corneal surgery/disease, strabismus (squint), orbital surgery/disorders, external eye disorders and medico-legal ophthalmology.
My research interests include astigmatism management, biometry, multifocal optics, accommodative intra-ocular lenses, LASIK, LASEK, Wavefront applications in cataract and refractive surgery.
I am a frequent lecturer at national and international surgical meetings and have been honoured by peers with invitations to demonstrate surgical techniques at numerous international meetings. Design, delivery and direction of numerous national and international courses on cataract and refractive surgery on a regular basis are an important aspect of my professional life. I work with the ophthalmic industry on a consultancy basis, advising on state of the art design, technologies and techniques.
My initial training in India was followed by the Yorkshire Registrar Rotation in the United Kingdom. The prestigious Iris Fund Research Fellowship in 1991 at St Thomas' Hospital London led to a swathe of significant publications in the field of cataract and refractive surgery. An Academic Senior Registrar position at the University of Oxford preceded a clinical fellowship in Corneal and Refractive Surgery in London and the United States in 1996. In 1997 I was appointed as a Substantive NHS Consultant at the Hull Royal Infirmary, Hull.
I am currently practicing as an independent consultant specialising in advanced cataract, corneal and refractive surgery.
I am the Past President of the United Kingdom and Ireland Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons.
