I qualified from Manchester University Medical school in 1993 having undertaken an intercalated BSc in pathology (First Class Hons) as part of my undergraduate course. My general ophthalmic training within the Yorkshire and Northern Deaneries (1994-2007) included subspecialty training in retinal vascular diseases, ophthalmic genetics and uveitis at St James' Hospital Leeds. I then undertook a medical retina fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital in 2007 and was appointed as a Consultant Ophthalmologist at Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals NHS Trust later that year. During my Ophthalmic training I undertook a PhD in Molecular genetics (Leeds University 2003), involving the study of inherited retinal vascular disease and the identification of genes responsible.
I currently lead the Lucentis service for patients with wet AMD in Hull and have a particular interest in emerging intra-vitreal therapies for retinal vascular disease and diabetic retinopathy.
